the first two gifs she’s talking to paul about working and shopping. i bet no one ever took her shopping or bought her nice things and she probably never had a comfy bed and a closet full of shoes. which takes us to the 3rd gif where she thinks that a normal diner is A NICE RESTAURANT. “don’t they feed you wherever you go?” PROBABLY NOT SARAH OK CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE

and then we see her just wanting to be friends with sarah, wanting a family, worrying about kira. and that asshole tomas did nothing but abuse her, and everyone knows it’s not helena’s fault that she’s like that. and she’s trying to change but she’s already been damaged too much and obviously she’s gonna blame the people who did that to her, WHO WOULDN’T? she was taught how to kill, she never knew what love is, what family is. she was locked in a fucking CAGE.

and i didn’t even add the cutting and sarah stabbing her and a fucking self-surgery because it was too disturbing for me i really can’t.

“what happened to you?” A LIFETIME OF ABUSE.

THIS. JUST THIS. I love Helena and the way the writers have written her because they treat her with so much respect and humanity (they as in the writers, not her abusers). The writers show the humanity in her instead of dehumanizing her, which is what her abusers have done all her life. They show her trying to find kindness, trying to figure out her own moral code, trying to grasp onto any shred of normalcy that she can. Which is difficult, of course, because of what she has been through.

I love the question “What happened to you?” Helena gets asked this questions several times. The first time she’s indignant - nothing’s been done to her, she’s the original, she’s the light. When Kira asks, she’s more helpless, and in saying that she doesn’t know, she’s realizing and admitting that something has been done to her. Something has made her this way. And when Sarah practically screams at her that Thomas made her this way, that “he’s going to hurt Kira like he hurt you” and Helena jumps and attacks him. It’s as if she’s realizing her own abuse, that not everyone gets treated the way she has. Finally, when she stabs Amelia, of course that’s not a good thing, but to her it’s her way of getting back at the world for what the world has done to her.

I love the character of Helena. I love the way she’s written and Tatiana Maslany is ever amazing at portraying her and her wonderfully complex internal struggle.

HAAAAAhaha aaah. Now it’s my turn to dye Lissa’s hair. Let’s do this.
